One of the best ways to ensure a successful kitchen remodel is to have good communication with the customer. Try to keep every conversation that includes significant or smaller changes on some type of record for future reference which can include email, texts, or signed change orders. It can be easy to misinterpret each other’s ideas. Having everything documented and in one place will keep you organized and on track.
Discuss the scope of work before the client signs the contract. Clarify and answer all questions and concerns that come up and additionally talk about pricing, allotments, upcharges, credits, etc. Make sure all parties involved understand the work that you are biding the job for, and it’s always good to mention what you’re leaving out of the contract to avoid misinterpretation. Make sure customer understands and agrees before signing a contract. There is no such thing as too much communication.
It’s very important to set up the schedule for the installation process so that the customer has an idea of what to expect. Make sure you provide the client with a time frame from start to finish. Let them know everyday what you’ll be doing, and let them know what was accomplished at the end of every day. This gives the customer clarity on what to expect, and with that, piece of mind.
Work closely with the client to pick a style. Determine what they like and what they would like to stay away from. Oftentimes customers have an idea of what they’d like based on their personality or their own style, but sometimes they have no clue of where to begin. Having a small questionnaire can help you determine what type of personality they have and what direction to go in.
Asking questions like, “In terms of style, do you consider yourself a conservative or contemporary person?” And “Do you have a color scheme in mind?” Have them explore Pinterest and save the posts that they feel expresses who they are. Review all available options together. Once style has been identified, it will be easier for the client to start their selection of materials.
5) Final Walk-Through
At the end of the project, it’s important to conduct a final walk-through with the client to ensure 100% satisfaction. As you work through your walk-through and inspection, take note of any minor issues the client has and make sure to resolve them as quickly as possible. Also, we’ve learned that asking the customer to complete a satisfaction survey can be helpful in that it provides insight into areas that may need improvement.
