Stuff We Love: Dust Management
Clear the air and breath easy with these new dust management solutions from Makita.
Keeping a clean and safe job site is essential for you, your workers and your clients. Today on Stuff We Love we're looking at new equipment from Makita that will help manage harmful dust on your job site. Watch Marty Dyck demonstrate this new dust management gear in the video below, then read on for more product detail and availability.
Makita 11 Gallon Wet/Dry, HEPA Filter, Dust Extractor Vacuum
If you're looking for the right HEPA vacuum to meet OSHA and EPA job site standards, this Makita is it. It not only handles dangerous dust, but comes with a bunch of features that make it a great all-around vacuum for your job site. Some of the highlights include:
- Auto tool-activated plug; starts and stops automatically with 10 second “off” delay to clear the hose.
- Auto filter cleaning system taps trapped dust out of filter.
- Will work with fleece filter bag or plastic disposal bags.
- Variable speed for different applications.
- Quiet — only 60 DB.
- Complies with the OSHA standard for exposure to respirable crystalline silica (concrete/masonry dust) when used with correct dust extraction equipped tool, of which Makita makes many.
Tool-activated vacuums have been around for a while. Yet the power and capacity of this vacuum, combined with its efficient three-stage HEPA filter system, make this Makita stand out in its class.
Makita AWS (Auto Start Wireless System)
Makita started this year with a whole line of AWS tools that are bluetooth connected. This solves the problem of using an auto-start vacuum with a cordless tool. We got their XAG21ZU right angle grinder which is the AWS version of the XAG11Z 18V LXT that we reviewed in a Stuff We Love about angle grinders.
There is a small chip that inserts in the handle of the tool above the battery that allows it to connect with an AWS equipped Makita vacuum. This is convenient when using a grinder, sander or drill while moving around a work area, because you are only tethered by the vacuum hose and not an extension cord as well. Makita is onto something here and will likely be introducing more tools like this grinder with AWS onboard.
Makita WUT02U Universal Wireless Adaptor
If you don't have an auto-start vacuum enabled with Makita's AWS, you can use this adaptor to enable it. Just hang or strap it on your vacuum, plug it into the on-board outlet, then sync it with your AWS tool and you're good to go. So if you're thinking about a new Makita AWS cordless tool but already own a vacuum you like, this adaptor is your fix.
